This series of no-cost training and peer learning sessions is designed to help rural housing providers and nonprofits acquire and/or preserve USDA Rural Development, HUD 811 and 202, LIHTC and other subsidized and affordable housing in rural Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. Fifteen organizations have been selected to participate in the cohort where they received no-cost, targeted, one-on-one technical assistance to support rural preservation efforts. Sessions are open to all.
Rural Preservation Southeast | April 20, 2022
This session covers current housing stock in the Southeast, and what it means to preserve the affordability of the housing stock that are at risk. Guest speakers are from Mississippi Home Corp and GA Department of Community Affairs who shared their experiences and challenges when working in rural communities when preserving rural properties.
Understanding Your Market | May 4, 2022
Take a deeper look at the affordable housing stock that is at risk, an exploration of considerations for acquiring a project for preservation, and a discussion of preservation and transfer considerations specific to USDA 515.
Strategies for Preservation | May 18, 2022
Explore preservation through the lens of case studies throughout the region with rural developers who have facilitated the acquisition and rehabilitation of USDA 515 properties and utilized resources like Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) for rehab and redevelopment in rural communities.
Funding the Gaps: Private Debt, Section 538 and Alternative Sources | June 15, 2022
This in-person session was held in Atlanta, GA. The session covered an array of financing resources available to preserve and rehab rural properties in the region. Local and federal programs and rural housing portfolios outside of RD and topics like joint development partnerships were also covered.

National Policy Summit | October 5, 2022
The session featured an exceptional slate of elected and public officials, rural housing advocates, and experts. They explored why preservation is such an important issue for rural communities, and what work is being done to ensure that USDA-subsidized housing stock is rehabilitated and stays in service for many years to come.
