The Purple Line, Maryland’s largest transit investment in the 21st century, will extend from Montgomery County to Prince George’s County in Maryland and improve connectivity in the Washington, DC region. This long-awaited transit project is expected to open in 2027, but local residents are already facing rising rents, threatening the stability and prosperity of low-income communities and communities of color living along the corridor.

Since 2019, anchor institutions, nonprofits, local and state governments, and tenant advocacy groups in the coalition have been working tirelessly towards a shared goal to add or stabilize 17,000 affordable homes for households with incomes at or below $72,000.  To date, 10,100 affordable homes have been committed or are in the development pipeline, but with 6,900 homes remaining, Enterprise commissioned a study to determine what’s still needed to meet our goal.
