James Brodsky

James A. Brodsky is a founding member of the Washington, D.C., law firm of Weiner Brodsky Kider PC, where he concentrates on mortgage and real estate finance issues; federal compliance matters; secondary market transactions; asset purchases and sales; mergers and acquisitions; and strategic business initiatives. He also serves as a member of the board of directors of MFA Financial, Inc., a 13-billion-dollar, NYSE-listed residential-mortgage real estate investment trust. He has chaired its Compensation Committee and served as its first lead director.

Prior to entering private law practice in 1977, James was a deputy assistant secretary with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He also served as a law clerk in the federal courts in Washington, D.C. For six years, he served as the chairman of the board of the Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP), the largest private nonprofit developer, owner and manager of affordable housing in Montgomery County, Maryland. With over $50 million dollars in assets, MHP owned and managed over 1,000 apartments and homes, and provided extensive social services to its residents during James’ tenure. For ten years, James also served as a member of the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County, the county’s housing finance and public housing agency.

James received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an editor of the law journal. He also received graduate and undergraduate degrees from Columbia University and Cornell University.
